Alias careers

The Alias career is established to provide all students with guarantees of respect, dignity and privacy, protecting those who undertake the path for the rectification of gender attribution (pursuant to Law 164/1982).

Activation procedures

To activate an Alias career it is necessary to submit:

  • Career activation request form indicating the name chosen for activation of the Alias career;
  • medical/diagnostic documentation attesting to the status of the path undertaken by the subject, in relation to the change in gender.

Request activation form

Evaluation of the request
Once the application has been submitted, it is evaluated by a commission appointed by a specific rector's decree.

If the committee's opinion is favorable, a confidentiality agreement is drawn up between the student concerned and the rector, specifying all the obligations and responsibilities arising from the use - exclusively within the University - of the Alias career, in parallel with the original one.

Activation of the Alias career
Once the application has been approved, the Student Careers Office is responsible for the creation of the Alias career, by assigning a new provisional personal identity chosen by the student, which is transitory and cannot be consolidated.

The University will issue a badge for the Alias career on which the name, chosen by the student, the surname and a matriculation number will be printed.

This badge may be displayed by the individual exclusively within the University for certain uses, such as:

  • enrolment/booking for university examinations, according to computerised procedures using the university portal uniweb;
  • holding of exams, as well as relative registration in case of passing;
  • access to University premises such as lecture halls, libraries, study rooms, canteen, etc.

The new Alias career will be in any case inseparably associated to the original one, already activated at the time of matriculation, and referring to the student's personal identity.

This Aliased career will coexist with the original one until the actual career will continue, except for requests for interruption made by the student, or until the final sentence of sex attribution correction, issued by the competent judicial authority.

The University commits itself to periodically update the Alias career and to periodically register it in the official career, corresponding to the student's actual name (approximately within the first week of each month), so that it is always up-to-date and usable externally.

When the competent judicial authority will authorize the rectification of sex attribution, the change of gender will take effect on the actual career of the student and, consequently, the Alias career will be closed.
